Spiritual Companioning

Spiritual companioning is a sacred practice of sharing one’s spiritual journey with a compassionate, trained listener. It offers meaningful support to anyone seeking a deeper connection with the Divine, regardless of religious background. This process welcomes those who are yearning for spiritual growth, healing, or a stronger relationship with God, themselves, and others. At its heart, spiritual companioning is a tradition rooted in deep, respectful listening. In a confidential and safe environment, your experiences are honored with reverence and without judgment. A trained spiritual companion listens with patience, presence, and care as you share your sacred stories. They walk alongside you through life’s transitions and complexities, serving as a steady, supportive presence as you uncover your own inner wisdom. Spiritual companions do not provide advice, counseling, or solutions. Instead, they accompany you in discerning your unique spiritual path, helping you reflect on which past practices may no longer serve you, which ones continue to nourish you, and what new practices might support your ongoing journey.
Why Spiritual Companioning?
As human beings, we inherently search for connection. This experience is shared across all ages, cultures, and walks of life. Our spiritual growth often deepens when we approach prayer with honesty and genuine longing for change and growth. A spiritual companion can help you sort through the many desires in your life and recognize the deep yearning for connection that lies beneath them.
Do you long for someone who will listen with compassion and without judgment? Do you desire to grow spiritually and deepen your relationship with God?
A skilled spiritual companion can support you in this journey by creating a space for you to come freely and openly before the mystery we call God. Rather than giving answers, they serve as wise, attentive guides, helping you reflect on your life and uncover the truth and wisdom already within you. Often described as "trained listeners," spiritual companions walk alongside you on your sacred journey of discovery and connection.
Typically, spiritual companioning is one hour long and occurs monthly and/or during a directed retreat. Suggested fee is $50 per hour for individual guidance.  If the donation is beyond your means, please request a scholarship. No one will be turned away because of the inability to pay.  For appointments or questions contact the specific spiritual companion, using the links below, or feel free to contact us at  A Place to Be Spirituality Center.
Spiritual Companioning for Those Dealing with Addiction
There is spiritual help and support for those dealing with addiction themselves and/or their family members. Alcoholics Anonymous, Al-Anon, and other 12 step programs are a means of dealing with a physical, emotional and spiritual disease.  Yet, sometimes more space is needed to tend to the soul, to healing, to exploring spiritual choices.  Sponsorship is vital in working a recovery program, yet a trained spiritual guide may be what you are looking for.  A Place To Be would like to provide that sacred circle for both individual and small group sharing and listening.  A companion will journey with you to investigate and navigate your spiritual path.  Spiritual Companion Ruth Hoenick has a solid understanding of the impacts of alcoholism and addiction and welcomes you to join her.  For more information, email Ruth directly at [email protected] or connect over LinkedIn at https://www.linkedin.com/in/ruth-a-huige-hoenick-28422a11/ .

Contact Kelly
Kelly Lemens completed a three-year spirituality training program at the Franciscan Spirituality Center in LaCrosse.  As a spiritual companion, Kelly believes that exploring our own inner spirituality leads us to discover and move closer to our authentic selves.  This journey can involve a re-imaging of who God is, or how God is present in suffering, loss and healing.  As Pastoral Associate for St. John XXIII Church, Kelly has journeyed with the bereaved, separated and divorced and those experiencing significant transitions in life.  Centering prayer and being in nature are an important part of her own spirituality.
